Sie sehen ein Interview mit Kat Kanka. Sie ist in der Schweiz eine einzigartige Expertin für persönliche Assistenz, Pflege und allem, was die Schnittstelle zwischen IV-Gesetz, Krankenkasse und persönlicher Assistenz betrifft. Weil sie so eine Expertin ist, wird sie von allen Parteien als Beraterin für Behinderten-Anliegen sehr respektiert.
Falls es in der Schweiz irgendwann eine Auszeichnung für Menschen geben wird, die grosses in der Behinderten-Politik erreicht haben, ist Kat Kanka sicherlich eine der ersten, die diese Auszeichnung verdient. Ihrer Arbeit, alleine während der letzten 15 Jahre, ist es zu verdanken, dass die Schweiz bald – endlich – zur Mehrzahl der Länder der Welt gehören wird, in denen Behinderte mit persönlicher Assistenz integriert in der Gesellschaft leben dürfen.

Q: Was bedeutet persönliche Assistenz?
A: Persönliche Assistenz heisst: Wir haben es mit Personen zu tun, die wegen ihrer Behinderung auf Hilfe angewiesen sind, um den Alltag zu bewältigen, also die zum Beispiel Hilfe brauchen in the daily tasks, getting up, eating, washing or something, or help in the household. And that such persons but themselves choose their personal assistant. That they the can really define himself, who cared not, there is not any organization that sends them to anyone, but they look for yourself and say: "The person is suitable, which can bring me the help I need."
Q: And what specifically does it mean for you? Personally?
A: So it is very important to me is the opportunity to be really taken seriously as a person than to an individual to be taken seriously. The fact that my privacy my privacy is protected. The way that I can just decide for yourselves who's coming so close to me.
Q: Yes, but now we have it in Switzerland so many great homes, where well-trained people to care about the poor disabled people. Do we need as ever personal assistant?
A: Absolutely, yes! Because there are the "poor" people with disabilities is also ever so not so. I think disabled people want to have the opportunity to live as normal to live integrated. It's good, I do not mind if there are homes. But to accept this offer a dormitory room, which should be free. There are some, who want to live alone, there are others who want to live in an apartment, others want to have a family and there are others for which a home is the right thing, and then to the kind of offer can choose. But they must be free to choose.
Q: You have so much contact with politicians from all parties. As for the individual parties are pers assistant?
A: This is actually also the beauty of the whole work, assistance is not a question of right and left. But the question is whether you want to give people the right to live independently, or whether you give them this right would like. Hence we have approval among parties from right to left. And of course there are politicians von rechts bis links, die von diesem Modell nicht überzeugt sind. Und das sind dann halt immer unterschiedliche Gründe, warum das so ist.
Q: Es gibt ja ein Pilotprojekt zur pers. Assistenz. Wie ist da der Stand? Welche Chancen und Gefahren siehst Du da?
A: Also das Projekt selber, das läuft ja jetzt zumindest einmal. Das hat der Bundesrat ja zweimal verlängert, bis Ende 2011, mindestens. Es ist bis jetzt eigentlich alles gut aufgegleist, dass dann ein sogenannter Assistenz-Beitrag ab dem Jahre 2012 allgemein eingeführt wird von der IV. Ich denke die Chancen sind gut. Es sind logische Konsequenzen aus den Schritten, die die letzten 10, 15 Jahre gegangen worden sind.
